EDGE ElbSide was developed in Hamburg’s Elbbrückenquartier in HafenCity based on a design by Behnisch Architekten for EDGE Technologies. The new building combines a five-storey podium with a high-rise tower of 14 storeys and provides approximately 31,600 m² of gross floor area. The main tenant is Vattenfall GmbH, whose new headquarters accommodates workplaces for more than 1,400 employees. In addition to flexible office spaces, the building includes ground-floor gastronomy as well as shared communication and lounge areas. The building structure incorporates several winter gardens and atria distributed across the floors, functioning as climatic buffer zones between interior and exterior spaces while improving daylight access and supporting natural ventilation. The structure was realised using a slim-floor construction system, reducing both material consumption and overall structural height. The building meets high standards in terms of sustainability and user comfort and was certified under the HafenCity Environmental Label, Version 3.0, at Platinum level, as well as under the WELL Building Standard (Gold).Müller-BBM Building Solutions was responsible for the overall building physics consultancy. The scope of services included building physics analyses and concepts covering building and room acoustics, sound insulation as well as building climate and thermal performance in order to ensure high standards of comfort, sustainability and overall building performance.
