The House of Future was established on the initiative of the federal government to present future developments through dialogue and networking between the state, science, economy, and society. Equipped with a pioneering energy concept, the building corresponds to the standard of a net-zero energy house with a gold certification for sustainable construction. The sculptural structure houses three above-ground levels, accessed through two centrally located vertical staircases. In addition to exhibitions and events on the upper floors, the basement and roof, with a surrounding "Skywalk," are accessible to visitors. In close collaboration with the architect and the building services engineer, Müller-BBM Building Solutions developed a holistic energy concept based on a so-called "Whole Building Simulation." This methodology enables the comprehensive understanding of all energy-relevant parameters and their direct interactions. As a result, it was demonstrated that a building with this specific use can also be realized as a net-zero energy house. Key components of the energy supply include photovoltaics, solar thermal, and a latent heat storage system. In developing a room acoustics concept, the multifunctional use of the building was prioritized, accommodating exhibitions, language, and cultural events alike. The design of the soundproofing measures had to consider the close proximity to the railway track.
