The development at the northern end of Kastanienallee closes a gap in Berlin's urban fabric. Surrounded by Wilhelminian-style buildings, the Puhlmannhof consists of a mix of residential, commercial and retail space, offices for the creative industries and underground parking spaces. A total of five buildings enclose a courtyard with a playground and stores, which opens out onto the lively Kastanienallee. A commercial building facing Schönhauser Allee completes the building complex.
Due to the busy inner-city location, the sometimes heavy traffic load and the adjacent tram and elevated railroad, specific measures were developed to provide appropriate noise protection against external noise. In terms of thermal insulation, the external components of the residential buildings have been dimensioned in such a way that the high-quality KfW Efficiency House 70 standard has been achieved. Special sliding elements and an individual ventilation concept are provided in houses 3 and 5 to ensure adequate thermal insulation in summer. During the planning process, special consideration had to be given to the interaction with the neighborhood and the closely adjoining existing buildings on both sides.
