The listed post and telegraph office in the Schöneberg district, built in 1925, was converted into a residential building. The new courtyard development, the head building and the roof extension on Geisbergstrasse and the narrow extension on Welserstrasse together with the brick-clad reinforced concrete building form a new ensemble. Particular attention was paid to the façade, the stairwells, the entrance area and the former counter hall. A total of 129 flats ranging from 50 to 200 m² were created with the pioneering standard of a KfW 115 efficiency house.

The realisation of a KfW Efficiency House standard (KfW 115), taking into account the requirements for the preservation of listed buildings and sustainability certification in accordance with the DGNB, involved high planning requirements. Suitable special solutions were developed to meet the building acoustics requirements of upscale residential use, such as the special ceiling construction between the commercial use and the spacious communal rooms on the ground floor and the living spaces above. These were designed to be acoustically insulated in such a way that the existing, comparatively light steel block ceilings are not subjected to increased expansion loads. The design of the prefabricated balconies to the inner courtyards, which are low in thermal bridges and efficient in terms of impact sound, was integrated into the exposed brick façade of the inner courtyard in close collaboration with the property and specialist planners.
