Room Acoustics
As a solitary building block on the campus site, the new building picks up on urban planning references and at the same time represents an organising element that flanks the forecourt to the CFEL. The basis for the rectangular, terraced new structure is formed by a 120-centimetre construction grid. On the outside, the new building is structured by closed smooth sheet metal façades and storey-high glazing. Meeting rooms, open communication areas and kitchenettes are set around the open central atrium in the condensed usable areas of the laboratory modules on the ground floor and the laboratory clusters on the upper floor. The large number of uses housed in the building, which are also directly related and have different acoustic requirements, was taken into account with targeted requirements and constructions. Special aspects arising from the requirements for the laser laboratories (e.g. uninsulated floor slab) were also taken into account in the concepts and verifications. Based on thermal building simulations, a climate concept was developed for the communication areas on the upper floors with the foyer in an open air connection. In addition, the quality standards defined by the desired BNB certification were taken into account and verified for all areas of building physics.
