The original building at Tauentzienstraße 6 was built between 1957 and 1958 by Prof. Werner Weber as an insurance building for Concordia and is a listed building as a typical representative of a post-war West Berlin office and commercial building. In the course of a refurbishment in line with the preservation order, the street building was extended at the rear of the property with a new two-storey building for additional retail space on the ground floor and basement.
The building physics support for the refurbishment of the existing building was a key focus of the consultancy on thermal and moisture protection. The primary objective was to preserve the entire façade construction as well as the interior components and the staircase, which is extremely unique in terms of its architecture. At the same time, great importance was attached to optimizing the historic building fabric as far as possible with regard to contemporary energy standards.
