Room Acoustics
The Music and Congress Hall Lübeck has become a high-class and internationally renowned venue for concerts and conven-tions since its inauguration in 1994. Even then, Müller-BBM Building Solutions was the acoustic consultant. The heart of this cultural complex designed by gmp Architekten is the excellent concert hall seating an audience of approx. 2,000. Among other things, it is the main venue of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. End of September 2015, the concert hall was closed for an extensive refurbishment including the ceiling structure and seating. Thereafter, the orchestra rehearsal hall was completely reconstructed and is now called the Small Hall. Before the start of the renovation works, extensive room acoustic measurements were performed for the purpose of objectively documenting the well-known good acoustics in the concert hall. The refurbishment particularly focused on the structural reinforcement of the ceiling mounting. In addition, the existing seating was upgraded, and completely new seats were installed on the balconies.During the reconstruction of the orchestra rehearsal hall (Small Hall), it was possible to maximize its volume by connecting the void above the visible ceiling with the hall. Moreover, differently tilted wall elements in combination with sound absorbing surfaces now ensure the desired high sound diffusion in the Small Hall.
