A new building with a rehearsal hall for the Staatskapelle Weimar has been built right next to the renovated Redoute in Weimar's North district. After almost 30 years of "provisional arrangements" in a former gymnasium at the State Administration Office, the Staatskapelle has finally found a new home in a professional rehearsal building.

The centrepiece of the acoustic planning was the new rehearsal hall, which offers up to 180 musicians, including the choir, a qualified setting for orchestra and choir rehearsals. For acoustic reasons, the walls, ceiling and floor of the almost 5,000 cubic metre hall are not parallel to each other without exception. The circumferential folded wall elements and the articulated ceiling structure consisting of convex individual elements ensure the desired diffusion and sound mixing. Mobile and individually movable sound-absorbing curtains are provided on all four wall surfaces, allowing a high degree of acoustic flexibility during rehearsals.
A studio for sound recordings and around 20 rehearsal rooms for the musicians have also been created. All rooms are highly sound-absorbent and of solid construction with flexible facing shells. A combination of fixed and variable sound-absorbing surfaces takes into account the acoustic requirements of the respective instrument groups and ensures a very balanced room sound.
