With the new Adhesive Innovation Center, Henkel's existing campus in Düsseldorf has been expanded to include an office and laboratory building with representative meeting areas. The building consists of three laboratory clusters grouped around a spacious, light-flooded atrium. The interior façades with floor-to-ceiling windows allow visitors to see into the laboratory areas. The highlight of the tour is a presentation in the "Infinityroom" surround cinema room.

The building physics issues of the heavy, uninsulated floor slabs were investigated for the large laboratories in the basement. The close proximity between these noisy laboratories and the immediately adjacent protocol rooms in need of protection posed a particular challenge. For this purpose, high-quality double-skin system partition walls were designed in conjunction with acoustically effective, room-attenuating cooling sail ceilings. Extensive room acoustic and electro-acoustic simulations were carried out for the prestigious atrium with a volume of 34,000 m³, which were used to develop the spatial arrangement as well as the construction of the sound-absorbing room boundary surfaces and the positions of the loudspeakers in such a way that very good speech intelligibility is achieved. The climate concept of the atrium, which was optimized with extensive thermal simulations for summer heat protection, ensures that the high requirements for thermal comfort and the publicly prescribed energy efficiency standards of the Building Energy Act are met.
