Room Acoustics
Vereinigte Bühnen Wien operates two world-famous musical theaters in Vienna, one of which is the Raimund Theater. The in-house musical production company VBW International has staged world successes such as "Dance of the Vampires" here and exports these productions all over the world. In daily practice, musical productions are tailored to the room by well-known sound designers and then run in consistently high quality for long periods of time, sometimes years. Very restrained, supporting room acoustics are desirable for this. After decades of intensive use, a core refurbishment was required, particularly in the hall and the foyer and outdoor areas. The very good acoustics in the hall were to be maintained and, where possible, improved as part of the refurbishment.
Prior to the refurbishment work, room acoustic measurements were carried out to objectively document the acknowledged good acoustics. Numerous surfaces and materials were completely renewed, including the wall cladding, seating and balustrades. All measures were precisely monitored by Müller-BBM Building Solutions in terms of planning and measurements in the laboratory and on site. As a result, the existing reverberation times in the medium and high frequency range were restored to within a few hundredths. Additional bass absorbers were discreetly integrated to facilitate the use of subwoofers.
