The “Teatro Sociale“ of Camogli was first inaugurated in 1876. At that time, it was mainly funded by the wealthy families of Camogli, and it has been privately owned ever since. After 1945, the theater in Camogli suffered the fate of many Italian cultural venues: it was mainly just used as a cinema. At the end of the 1970s, neither sponsors nor funds could be found to carry out the long overdue refurbishments – with the result that the theater was closed. In 2017, after almost 40 years of deep sleep, the completely restored jewel was festively inaugurated by Maestro Fabio Luisi. In the course of the restoration, all acoustically relevant surfaces in the theater were optimized with the aim of reducing permanent absorption surfaces and thus to promote the propagation of sound. The horseshoeshaped auditorium, which seats an audience of 500, as well as the stage had largely been preserved and thus were restored in their original form. However, the domed ceiling above the auditorium was badly damaged, so it could be redesigned in accordance with heritage requirements. As a result, the new geometry of the step ceiling now represents a significant acoustic im-provement. Since all technical installations were totally outdated, the entire ventilation and air conditioning system was replaced. More-over, nowadays the theater again has a small orchestra pit with a mechanical podium.
