The new building of the traditional Hamburg shipping company Bernhard Schulte Group replaces the former office building of the shipping company on the same site. It is located directly on the Elbe promenade of the Port of Hamburg, separated only by the elevated railroad. The building closes the city block and rises to eight storeys. The street corner is accentuated by a tower, which is modeled from a dynamic movement of the building structure. The open floor plan results from the requirements of the company's predominantly team-based work and allows for a variety of uses for the office organization.
The offices are equipped with concrete core activation. This means that conventional room acoustics solutions do not work. A sound-absorbing lighting element was therefore developed in close cooperation with the lighting designer. This pendant luminaire was approved following acoustic measurements on a sample element. For soundproofing reasons, the high-rise building has a double façade facing the Elbe to protect employees from noise pollution caused by the passing of the elevated train and noise from port operations. For the technical units on the roof of the building, which should not be visible from the outside, an enclosure was designed with the planning parties to protect the neighborhood from noise.
