The new lecture hall wing was fitted between the existing wings of the building on the east side of the English Garden. The building comprises two lecture halls arranged one above the other, a foyer in front, a seminar room and an extension to the office space. The façade has a sawtooth shape and allows daylight to enter directly into the lecture halls via side windows.

The focus of the consultation was on the acoustic quality of the two lecture halls, which have a classic orientation with ascending seating and are dimensioned for 270 and 150 listeners respectively. In close consultation with the architects, room acoustics measures were designed to achieve a high level of speech intelligibility. The architectural design with a trapezoidal floor plan and a side wall geometry rotated to the longitudinal axis of the hall proved to be favorable in terms of room acoustics in order to support good sound reflection for the audience.

The building acoustics measures focused primarily on the necessary airborne and impact sound separation of the lecture halls, one above the other, as well as on adequate protection from the building services systems installed in the basement and in the roof center. A high-quality energy-efficient building standard was implemented for the new lecture hall wing.
