Thermal Insulation & Energy Performance Calculation
The Kulturquartier combines several institutions in the center of the baroque complex of the residential town of Neustrelitz: the town museum, the town library and the Karbe-Wagner natural history archive. Including the listed "Old Post Office" and "Old Mint", an extension building was created in the courtyard, which spatially interlinks the different functional areas of the museum, archive, event hall and library thanks to its open floor plan.
During the refurbishment, the planners paid particular attention to upgrading the energy efficiency of the existing building in line with its listed status. Müller-BBM Building Solutions undertook the building physics assessment with regard to the indoor climate and acoustics in the exhibition rooms. Among other things, it was recommended that the historic windows be upgraded in combination with interior insulation systems in some areas - as an additive measure to the existing historic building. The targeted energy optimization of the thermal building envelope of the new building meant that the requirements of EnEV2009 could be undercut by around 50 percent.
The room acoustics concept for the publicly accessible areas of the building, which Müller-BBM Building Solutions developed together with the architects, included sound-absorbing measures for various wall and ceiling coverings as well as for the flexible, individually adapted furnishings.
