Thermal Insulation & Energy Performance Calculation
The Kunstmuseum Ahrenshoop was built by a private foundation initiative and houses not only its own collection of 500 paintings and graphics but also exhibits from various owners, which are made accessible to the public through permanent and temporary exhibitions. The museum consists of five sculptural individual buildings that merge into an ensemble with a connecting flat roof and enclose a central foyer. The two-story functional section comprises special exhibition rooms on the ground floor, with a large open-plan office for administration above. Storage and technical rooms are located in the basement.Regarding the museum's use of the buildings, there are high requirements for a constant relative humidity and temperature. Roof slopes and floors are geothermally activated for heating and cooling, with energy supplied through centrally controlled heat exchangers ensuring constant room temperatures. To prevent condensation on the glazed roof construction in winter, windows with high thermal insulation quality have been installed. Through the energy optimization of the entire property, the requirement value for the maximum allowable annual primary energy demand according to the current energy saving regulation could be reduced by approximately 50%.
