Thermal Insulation & Energy Performance Calculation

Mercedes-Benz Sales Germany (MBVD) has been spread across four different buildings within Berlin until now. The 13-story high-rise building with surrounding development marks the beginning and first new construction after the O2 Arena in the O2 City district. Essentially, it is an office building for approximately 1200 workplaces with special uses such as the two-story spacious showroom, the employee restaurant, a large conference center, and a public restaurant bar. The building has a single-story basement.

With the aim of achieving certification according to the statutes of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB), Silver Class, evidence of energy-saving thermal insulation according to the currently valid Energy Saving Ordinance was already provided in the design planning phase. The energy-efficient building quality could be demonstrated to be approximately 35% better compared to the reference building.

The implementation of high user requirements to achieve confidentiality in individual offices and meeting rooms was a major part of the architectural acoustics consulting. In addition, the room acoustic objective of achieving good speech intelligibility in the conference rooms and a low reverberation time in the open space zones had to be met. The particular challenge was to develop solutions that meet the specialist planning requirements while also fulfilling the architectural aspirations and achieving maximum flexibility.
