The KiTZ daycare center in Munich-Riem was designed as a two-story new building and houses a nursery, kindergarten, and after-school care center under one roof. With a gross floor area of around 1,900 m², the result is a modern, energy-efficient, bright daycare center—with a focus on sustainable construction and good room quality. Large skylights (sheds) allow plenty of daylight to enter, while a photovoltaic system and connection to the local geothermal plant improve energy performance. In addition, KiTZ is not only used for childcare: it sees itself as a social meeting place for families in the neighborhood. Parent cafés, multipurpose rooms, and open offers promote interaction, support, and community.
