The new Research Centre for Molecular Biosystems (BioSys) forms the north-western end of the LMU research campus in Großhadern. The compact structure with rounded corners is characterised by the white curtain wall façade, which is additionally structured by the surrounding ribbon windows. The new building has a basement and four floors above ground. In addition to the scientific facilities, laboratories etc., the research centre also has a large conference room and a cafeteria. One of the main focal points of the consultation was the protection of the vibration-sensitive microscopy laboratories, which are housed in the basement. As part of the room acoustics consultation, measures tailored to the architectural requirements in the conference room and seminar rooms were developed. With regard to thermal insulation and energy balancing, compliance with the stricter recommendations for state buildings was taken as a basis, which is reflected in a primary energy requirement that is 25 % below the requirements of EnEV 2009.
