The Kunsthaus Tacheles on Oranienburger Straße, once a department store, served as an important source of creative energy for the national and international art scene for over 20 years. A monument since the early 1990s, it is now the new home of the Swedish photography museum Fotografiska Berlin, which presents itself as the fourth branch alongside Stockholm, New York and Tallinn as an open cultural center. In addition to exhibition and catering areas, the building also offers a theater hall for events as well as studio and office space.
The aim of the entire building physics consultation was to take into account all aspects of monument protection while at the same time preserving the historic building fabric, in particular the numerous graffiti paintings inside. The monument was given an energy upgrade through careful measures. Building acoustics measures were planned to ensure that the various intended uses do not interfere with each other. A planning concept was developed for the theater hall to ensure suitable room acoustics for the various types of events. Sound immission control was assessed in connection with the installation of recoolers and other building services systems on the roof areas of the building.
