The building project addressed the conver-sion of the Munich public utility company‘s former substation site located south of Elisabethplatz. Two slightly curved structures, each oriented in east-west direction, were connected by a common basement. The space created will be used for rental flats, a student resi-dence, office space, and a daycare center for children. The building designed by Bruno Fioretti Marquez is characterized by its sophisticated archi-tectural design, for which almost the entire spectrum of building physics was covered holistically in collaboration with the other planning partners involved. Various aspects were taken into account, including protection against shock and vibration related to the neigh-boring tramways.Particular attention was paid to the north side/Ostendstraße, for which extensive coordinating discussions were held with the responsible approval authorities. The aim was to develop a practicable and architecturally feasible solution despite requirements for "healthy living conditions" and specific window constructions. The facades facing Elisabethplatz were designed as double-skin, core-insulated facades with an outer fair-faced concrete shell. The struc-tural design of the structural engineer was founded on a simulation-based analysis of temperature fluctuations of the outer concrete elements. For the exterior walls made of lightweight vertically perforated bricks in the other parts of the building, thorough evaluations were required in the areas of sound insulation as well as thermal insulation.
