The new "Blu" municipal bath, located directly across from Potsdam's main train station, was built on the site of the old Brauhausberg swimming hall from the GDR era. The 50-meter sports pool with ten lanes and a grandstand capacity of 400 seats meets international standards for swimming and water polo competitions. The leisure pool area includes a sauna, wellness facilities, and gastronomy, expecting up to 350,000 visitors annually.During the planning phase for energy-efficient thermal insulation, future developments and expected revisions to the Energy Saving Ordinance were taken into account. Coupled with the specific climatic conditions of a swimming pool, the desired high construction standards for the energy efficiency of standard components were achieved at economically justifiable costs. Sun protection glazing in the area of the large swimming pools was intentionally omitted to utilize the particularly favorable solar heat gains in the transitional seasons and winter.Throughout the planning process, fire protection requirements were tailored to the unique building specifications in a goal-oriented manner, allowing, for example, the omission of a typically required automatic fire extinguishing system.
