Office space for around 100 workstations has been created in the extension to the Neustadt a.d. Waldnaab district administration office. The barrier-free new building is attached in a horseshoe shape to the historic baroque Lobkowitz Palace from the 17th century, where the district administrator's office is located. The departments of construction, nature and environmental protection, soil protection, waste law and social services have moved into the new building. The building is characterized by a resource-saving construction method and the extensive use of wood as a supporting structure.
During the planning phase, particular care was taken to use only a small number of building services systems in order to achieve a high level of energy efficiency during building operation. All office and administration rooms are naturally ventilated and have no mechanical cooling. Suitable summer heat insulation is provided by an external, highly effective movable sunshade. Simulation calculations were used to verify the thermal insulation in summer. A very high standard of structural thermal insulation was implemented in the planning and construction of the building envelope, parts of which are made of lightweight concrete. The overall concept of the building envelope and the economical technical building equipment allows for extremely economical building operation with very low maintenance costs for the technical building systems.
