For almost 30 years, the Münchner Volkstheater performed in a converted former multi-purpose hall on Brienner Straße, which had become popular with audiences. As high investment costs would have been necessary for further maintenance and space was at a premium, the city of Munich decided to build a new building in Munich's Schlachthof district. The new "turnkey" theater building, constructed by a general contractor, comprises a hall for 600 spectators and two further venues with 200 and 100 seats respectively, which are equipped with high-performance stage machinery and state-of-the-art technology. The theater building, which also incorporates listed existing buildings, is completed by workshops, changing rooms, rooms for administration, artists' apartments and a restaurant that is open independently of the theater.Müller-BBM Building Solutions drew up the functional specifications for the room and building acoustics as well as for the audio, video and stage management technology as the basis for the Europe-wide general contractor tender that preceded the construction project. In addition, technical support was provided for the general contractor competition. The planning and execution work of the general contractor and its planners was assessed and monitored with regard to conformity with the specifications. In addition, MÜLLER-BBM planned the initial equipment of the audio, video and stage management technology for the new theater and integrated technical equipment from the existing stock wherever possible.
