The Innovation Factory 2.0 in Heilbronn, a timber-hybrid building in the "Wohlgelegen" technology park, brings together start-ups and companies from the technology and creative sectors as a transparent centre for forward-looking ideas. The light-flooded central hall offers open communication and meeting zones. The workstations of the start-up units are arranged in a ring around the hall and enable a variety of office concepts from open space to combined or cellular offices. Central conference and meeting rooms complement the space on offer.

The building was designed as a skeleton structure with point-supported timber-concrete composite ceilings and a half-timbered, external façade structure. The wood wool lightweight panels laid between the prefabricated wooden beams of the ceilings are effective in terms of room acoustics and serve as permanent formwork for the concrete to be poured on site. The energy concept combines structural (passive) measures with efficient plant technology. The heating and cooling is supplied by a reversible heat pump system and the heat and cold is transferred to the rooms and ventilated via a climate floor. The climate concept was developed and optimised on the basis of a whole-building simulation.

The challenge was to design a building that promotes dialogue and also serves as a showcase for innovation. The truss-like façade structure gives the building an iconic appearance and allows for flexible interior utilisation without supporting walls. Together with the climate concept, this emphasises the commitment to sustainability and creates an inspiring working environment.
