Room Acoustics
In the course of the “Maximiliansplatz Süd“ development in central Munich, a new rehearsal building was erected. It houses a large orchestra rehearsal hall, two opera rehearsal stages, a rehearsal stage for the Staatsschauspiel, a recording studio featuring state-of-the-art recording equipment for CD recordings, as well as a number of small rehearsal rooms and rooms for musical instrument tuning. The orchestra rehearsal hall for the Bavarian State Opera orchestra had to meet the highest acoustical requirements. Here, rehearsals for opera, partly with choir, as well as for symphonic works take place. In order to ensure excellent acoustics, the hall has a volume of approx. 4,000 m³. As a consequence of the building‘s overall design, noisy workshops are located above the rehearsal hall. This layout is very critical in terms of acoustics and thus called for maximum sound insulation by means of structural measures. The large rehearsal stage with its three separate, movable podia and large volume provides ideal conditions for scenic rehearsals and opera rehearsals including pianoforte or orchestra accompaniment. Basically, the acoustical requirements are to create excellent intelligibility and transparency for singers and musicians.
