The listed Gärtnerplatz Theatre is a classic tiered theatre with a balcony, central box and three tiers for a total of 893 spectators.
The entire electro-acoustic system was refurbished in 2007. The mixing console system as well as the auditorium and stage sound system were completely renewed along with the offset boxes and audio lines. At the same time, the system for extending the reverberation time was extended and the video and monitoring system was expanded with new cameras, video distributors and a new video cable network. In 2010, a new intercom system was installed for communication between the technical departments.
The centrepiece of the new sound system is a digital mixing console and crossbar system for a large number of inputs and outputs. The system is controlled via two control consoles, one of which is permanently installed in the control room, while the other is intended for mobile use. The system allows setups to be saved for each performance, which is a great advantage given the wide variety of programmes at the Gärtnerplatz Theatre. Special magnetostatic line source speakers were integrated into the side portals in combination with subwoofers behind sound-transparent panelling to provide sound reinforcement for the auditorium.
